Wilma DeLancey, 88, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at her home at Garnet Place in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness.
A celebration of Wilma's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Anamosa United Methodist Church, where friends may call after 10 a.m. The Rev. Marty Schuhmacher will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Wilcox Cemetery, Viola. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, has been entrusted with the services. Surviving are a daughter, J'Nee DeLancey, and granddaughter, Bronwyn Sprague, of Seattle, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Gene.
Wilma Ann Hawley was born April 24, 1928, in Greene County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Merle and Alice Underwood Hawley. Wilma graduated from the Olin Consolidated Schools. She married Gene DeLancey on Sept. 25, 1949. Over the years, Wilma worked for Jones County Abstract Company, Life Investors in Cedar Rapids and Coe College. She also was the church secretary at United Methodist Church in Anamosa for many years.
Wilma had been a member of the Anamosa Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Francis Shaw chapter of the DAR. She loved to arrange flowers and it was her joy to arrange the altar flowers at church each Sunday. Her cat Rascal gave her great joy and comfort.
