Kidwell-Cole-Bascom, Shirley M.
Shirley M. Kidwell-Cole-Bascom, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Harlan Gillespie. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Wilcox Cemetery, Viola.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; two children, Willy (Kelly) Cole of Dundee and Darcie Luxa of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Glendora Simon of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Ronnie Cole.
Shirley was born July 24, 1942, the daughter of James and Ethel (Young) Kidwell in Pueblo, Colo. She was married to William L. Cole from 1959-1980. She then married Richard Bascom on Nov. 28, 1980, in Marion. Shirley worked for Rockwell Collins for 40 years.
Shirley enjoyed travel for work and also wintering in Texas with her husband, Richard, for the past six years. She also enjoyed her family very much.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Shirley's honor to Hospice of Mercy, Dr. Wiesenfeld/Oncology Associates or Hall Radiation Center at Mercy Medical Center.
