Herber, William 'Bill' Leo
William “Bill” Leo Herber, 86, of 3913 Summerfield Lane NE, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, in his home. Graveside Inurnment Service with military honors: 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Wilcox Cemetery, Viola, Iowa.
Survivors include his daughters, Tonya (Jaclyn Anderson) Kehoe-Anderson of Iowa City, and Lisa (Joe) Dalziel of Hiawatha; grandchildren, Cruse, Riley and Sydney Aarhus and Andrew William Kehoe; and former wife, Loretta Herber.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Born May 10, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa, Bill was the son of John and Birdeva “Birdie” (Milligan) Herber. Bill was a World War II veteran who served in the Navy, mainly on the USS Fullam DD-474. His career spanned many fields including a barber, police officer and inspector for FMC Link Belt Speeder, before retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal.
A true outdoorsman, Bill was an expert marksman, fly fisherman and hunter. He was also a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans.
