Maynard, Esther M.
Esther M. Maynard, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at her home. Funeral Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Ivan Nienhaus. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends at a luncheon at the church following the burial.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert; children, Mary Ann Maynard of New Paltz, N.Y., Rebecca Maynard of Phoenix, Elizabeth (Lawrence) Maynard Hoffman of Sugar Land, Texas and Charles Maynard of Hiroshima, Japan; grandchildren, Jessica (Billy) Pollett and Jane Susnik; sisters, Angie Alverez of Chicago and Anita Wilcox of Cedar Falls; brothers, Braulic Caballero of Fayette, Rupert (Martha) Caballero of Waukon, Michael (Judy) Caballero of Cedar Falls and Earl (Maria) Krone of Los Angeles; dear friend, Karon Johnson of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ana Caballero; brothers-in-law, Rosando Alverez and Clayton Wilcox; and sister-in-law, Pat Caballero.
Born Oct. 5, 1925, in Oelwein, Iowa, Esther was the daughter of Braulio and Anita (Ramirez) Caballero. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1946. She worked in Chicago and at a loan company in Oelwein before her marriage on Aug. 8, 1958, to Herbert Maynard in Oelwein. She then worked in home health care and was a bus aide in Cedar Rapids as well as raising her family and being a homemaker.
Esther's joys were watercolor painting, shopping and traveling. She also loved being with people and nature.
