Oliver, John B.
John B. Oliver, 61, died while visiting in Springfield, Ill., on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, followed by a memorial meal to be held at JETC Training Facility at Hawkeye Downs. Private inurnment will be held at Dunkard Cemetery, Midway.
Survivors include his children, Michelle Thompson, Jill (Robert) Zeck, Amy Holub, Robert Wilcox and Charles Wilcox, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Patricia (Larry) Parsons of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jacob and Tiffany Holub, Brandon (Liz) Cassiday and Michael and Cassie Wilcox; great-grandchildren, Dominick and Abrianna Cassiday; many nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Mary Catherine Elliott and June Diane Hakes; and brothers, Wendal and Wally.
John was born Oct. 10, 1950, to Byron and Florence Oliver. He was a lifelong member and retiree of IBEW Local 43 and was president of the retirees committee.
John was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He enjoyed and attended many NASCAR races. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping.
The family extends a special thank you to his brothers in IBEW Local 43.
