Police arrested a Cedar Rapids woman Tuesday morning after she allegedly hit a utility pole with her vehicle while she was drunk.
Cara J. Frank, 25, of 936 M St. SW, was taken into custody on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, failure to maintain control and assault on a peace officer. The officer was not hurt in the incident.
Police were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. to First Avenue and 31st Street NE after a witness said a sport-utility vehicle hit a pole and sped away. Police found a bumper nearby in the 100 block of 32nd Street NE.
Near the pole, a white SUV was parked in a parking lot. It was missing a rear bumper and its rear window was broken out, police said.
Officers found Frank in the vehicle alone. Police said she smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes. She told police she did not recall hitting anything or losing her bumper, according to police report.
When told her vehicle was without a bumper, Frank told police her head hurt. An ambulance came to the scene and took her to St. Luke's Hospital.
At the hospital, police said Frank jumped off a stretcher and kicked a clipboard out of Officer Brandon Bosenberg's hands while he was reading her an implied consent form, which is required for drunk driving arrests. After Bosenberg restrained Frank's arms, she kicked him in the legs, according to the police report.
Frank was released from the hospital and taken to the Linn County Jail.
