Elgin, James A.
James A. Elgin, 79, of Dyersville, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville, Iowa.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Jim was born Aug. 19, 1933, in Bankston, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Stella (Hess) Elgin. He married Theresa Vonderhaar on Aug. 24, 1955, in New Vienna, Iowa. Jim was a salesman for Harvestore Structures and Professional Products. For many years he was locally known for his delicious sweet corn. Jim loved horses, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bluff Lake was his favorite Saturday evening spot.
Survivors include his three sons, Ron (Jody) Elgin of Manchester, Jeff Elgin of Eldridge, Iowa, and Tom (Maria) Elgin of Dyersville; six grandchildren, Abby (friend, Phil Holtz), Nicholas, Micaela, Alissa, Blake and Luke Elgin; siblings, Don (Mae) Elgin of Worthington, Robert (Gladys) Elgin of Holy Cross, Lou Ann Deutmeyer of Dyersville, Dorothy Elgin of Dubuque, Sharon (Tom) Ludwig of Farley, Rosemary Kruse of Bankston, Darlene (Ralph) Kremer of Dyersville, Willis (Dot) Elgin of Delaware, Marvin Elgin of Bankston, Madonna (Daniel) Gibbs of Farley, Linda Elgin of Dubuque, and Betty (Dave) Ludwig of Worthington; in-laws, Francis (Elaine) Vonderhaar, and John (Judy) Vonderhaar, both of New Vienna, Leonard (Margie) Vonderhaar of Holy Cross, Mel Schuster of Dubuque, and Vince Ehrlich of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Theresa in 1994; siblings, Grace (Larry) Davis, and Diane Ehrlich; and in-laws, Bill Deutmeyer, Dan Kruse and Rita Schuster.
Memorials are preferred.
