CURTIS ALLEN HANSEL Cedar Rapids Curtis Allen Hansel, 74, passed away at the Iowa Veterans' Home in Marshalltown, on Saturday, July 30, 2016, following a short illness. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Edgewood Cemetery. Curt is survived by his sons, James Hansel of Tucson, Ariz., and Brian (Kathryn) Hansel of Kansas City, Kan.; his brothers, Robert of Edgewood and J. Douglas of North Liberty; and sister, Dorothy Taylor of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert Allen and Sophie (Buhrmann) Hansel; sister, Janice; and brothers, Leon, Leonard, Cie and Vallie ("Jay"). Curt was born March 6, 1942, in Edgewood, Iowa. He attended Iowa Valley High School in Marengo before moving to Cedar Rapids. Curt served in the U.S. Army between 1964 and 1966. As a member of the armed forces, he deployed to Vietnam and was selected to guard Herbert Hoover's gravesite following the former president's funeral and burial. Before his retirement, Curt worked at Wilson Foods Corp. and at Four Oaks. He enjoyed hunting, meeting his friends at the Breakfast House and an occasional trip to the casino. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Four Oaks, 5400 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
