Leaven, Janice 'Jan' L.

Janice “Jan” L. Leaven, 62, of Moravia, formerly of Newhall, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines following a short illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 12, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Dr. James Eggert officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Newhall. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday also at the church in Newhall.

A memorial fund has been established.

Jan was born Jan. 23, 1948, to John and Erna (Engel) Maas at Brandon. She graduated from Benton Community High School in 1966 and attended Kirkwood Community College. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Leaven on Nov. 26, 1989, at Norway.

Jan liked to cook and fish and loved the outdoors around their Lake Rathbun home. Above all her family was her greatest joy.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Leaven of Moravia; her children, Chris (Mark) Lorber of Waukee, Kevin (Linda) Leaven of Newhall, Kayla (Chris) Christensen of Blairstown, Lisa (Daryl) Wiesender of Cedar Rapids, Kandi (Carlos) Perez of Minneapolis and Christian (Theresa) Seboldt of Ladora; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and her brother, Erwin (Joann) Maas of Garwin.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jason Seboldt; and her two brothers, Henry and Willie Maas.
