MARIE MARTHA STEPANEK Cedar Rapids Marie Martha Stepanek, 92, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ely, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at First Assembly of God Church in Cedar Rapids, by Pastors Jim Fields and Rick Gail. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, Cedar Rapids. Marie was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Ely, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kracthovil) Moses. Marie graduated from Ely High School, and Cedar Rapids Business College. She married Louis J. Stepanek on Jan. 10, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. Marie worked as the food service manager at St. Ludmila School. Marie was always proud of being a charter member of The Arc. Marie is survived by her husband, Louis; children, Mary (James) Fields of Largo, Fla., William (Barb) Stepanek of Largo, Fla., Thomas (Sheila) Stepanek of Cedar Rapids, and Kathleen (Mark) Banowetz of Ely; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Bernard in 2000; and brother, Joseph Moses. Marie has gone to be with her Down syndrome son, Bernie; and Jesus. Her lifetime example of caring for others, excelling as a mother and being a good citizen in her faith has always been appreciated by all those who knew her. Marie's family cannot say enough about the personal loving care she received at Hiawatha Care Center during the many years she was in their care. Thank you and bless you all!
