Arleen D. Sorensen, 90, of Fairfax, died Monday, April 28, 2014, in her home. Services: 9:30 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where a visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Summit Hill Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Jim) Thacker of Fairfax; her grandchildren; Kelly (Mark Junkmann) Edwards of New Virginia, Iowa, Kimberly Brewer of Cedar Rapids, and Kathy (John) Craft of Maple Valley, Wash.; and her great-grandchildren, Brittany, Bailey, Taylor, Lyndsee,
Cody and Caden. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gerald L. Sorensen; a brother, Everette Johnson; a sister, Fern Pike; and her great-grandson, Nathanial Brewer.
Arleen was born March 18, 1924, in Pocohontas, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Jessie (Trupe) Johnson. She married Gerald L. Sorensen there on Oct. 6, 1940. Arleen was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye Fan.
