Atkinson, James A. 'Jim'
James A. “Jim” Atkinson, 66, of rural Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Mercy Iowa City under the compassionate care of its hospice. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to Hospice Care of Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

James Allen Atkinson was born May 13, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Allen and Virginia R. (Humston) Atkinson. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, and a veteran of the United States Navy. Jim was united in marriage to Penny Kibbe on April 2, 1971, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked for the Norand Corporation and later for PMX Industries, both in Cedar Rapids, retiring this year.
His family includes his wife, Penny; daughter, Heather Atkinson and her husband, Steve Meyer; Jim's son, Mark Atkinson; granddaughter, May Atkinson; and Jim's former daughter-in-law, Patricia Atkinson, all of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
