Aplington-Parkersburg football team returns to the field

PARKERSBURG -- The situation was anything but normal, yet the start of 2009 practice has brought some normalcy to Aplington-Parkersburg's football team.
For the first time in 35 years, Ed Thomas isn't the coach of the football team in Parkersburg. He was shot to death on June 24, leaving A-P's players and coaches to move the dominant program forward without him. They began trying to do that Monday with their first set of two-a-day practices.
