McGillin, Dolores Mary
Dolores Mary McGillin, 87, of North Liberty, and a longtime Cosgrove resident, died peacefully Friday, May 3, 2013, at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, at St. Peter's Church in Cosgrove, with Father Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lensing's Oak Hill in Coralville, where a vigil service will be held at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Dolores was born May 9, 1925, on the family farm in Johnson County, the daughter of John and Blanche (Miller) Rourke. She was a graduate of Oxford High School. On Sept. 11, 1945, Dolores married Thomas McGillin at St. Mary's Church in Oxford.
Dolores was a receptionist at ACT for many years. She was the self-appointed mayor of Cosgrove, where she was a member of St. Peter's Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and a charter member of the Cosgrove Institute.
Dolores loved the time spent with family and friends, especially her involvement in the Kitchen Klatter Band and the DD Card Club of which she was a member for 60 plus years.
Survivors include her six children, Patty, Barb, Nancy O'Brien, Mick, Mike and Joan Ricks-McGillin and Dana; five grandchildren, Luke, Colin, Macklin, Shamis and Liam; great-grandchildren, Claire and Ella; five siblings, Veronica (Merle) Hoye, Carol Krob, Ronald “Mike” Rourke, Theresa (Jim) Stelk and Sarah (Patrick) O'Reilly; and numerous extended family, nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; son-in-law, Tom O'Brien; her brothers, John “Jack” and Dick; her sister, Esther Peters; and in-laws John Krob, John Peters and Jim (Betty) McGillin.
