Groepper, Linda Jean
Linda Jean Groepper, 56, of 914 DeForest Ave., Iowa City, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at her home from cancer, with her family beside her. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City. The Very Rev. Rudolph T. Juarez will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A parish wake service will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a Catholic Daughters rosary. Burial will be private at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.
Linda was born Dec. 20, 1954, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Joyce A. (LeMoine) Fraser. Raised in Holstein, Iowa, Linda received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Morningside College in Sioux City and her MSN degree from the University of Nebraska. She married Randall Groepper on May 20, 1978, in Holstein. Linda was a nursing instructor at Mount Mercy University for 20 years until her decline in health forced her to retire in 2010. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Survivors include her husband, Randy; sons, Joseph Groepper of Iowa City and Daniel Groepper (Emily) of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter, Mary Fleming (Matthew) of Iowa City; grandchildren, Lillian and Blaise Fleming; her mother, Joyce Fraser of Holstein; sisters and brothers, Judy Peterson (Wesley) of Sioux City, Tom Fraser (Gwyn) of Peoria, Ill., Jody Fraser (Kim) of Holstein and Carla DeVries (Dylan) of Fort Reilly, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; and son, Matthew.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Mount Mercy University.
