Shaffer, Daniel D.
Daniel D. Shaffer, 51, of Independence, died Tuesday afternoon, July 13, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a short illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with the Rev. Dr. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Dan was born Sept. 18, 1958, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Roberts and Katheryn (Kaiser) Shaffer. He attended the Independence High School and was united in marriage to Teri S. Spece in Independence. He was employed with Viking Pump and Farm Services before farming with his son-in-law, Mike Reilly, near Coggon.
He is survived by his wife, Teri Shaffer; three children, Amy (Mike) Reilly, Coggon, Adam (Anna Redfearn), Hiawatha, and Alicia (Jason Singelton), Independence; four grandchildren, Alissa Shaffer, Addison Shaffer, Hunter Reilly and Ethan Shaffer; and a sister, Connie (Jeff) Paxton, Laurel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
