Search warrant paperwork filed today in Dubuque County Court reveals disturbing new details about the disappearance of a 20-month-old child. The records list some of what police learned as they looked into what may have happened at the home of the child's mother, Tamelia Harris.
Officers first searched the home looking for clues about CC Harris that might reveal where she was. Instead the search warrant shows they found items similar to something they'd find at a crime scene. Officers say they found mini-blinds that had a brownish red splatter stain on them. They also found a pair of children's scissors and a set of children's bed sheets with what appears to be the same stains on them.
The court papers also detail statements made by a friend of Tamelia Harris that appear to have shifted the focus of the investigation. Police say the Tamelia told her friend "there was a bad accident with my daughter." Tamelia reportedly told the same friend CC died and she was not having a funeral for her. The friend also told police Tamelia told her she picked CC up by her arms, shook her and threw her at the side of the bed.
The records say police interviewed another friend of Tamelia's who noticed a really bad smell at the house while moving furniture. This friend alleges Tamelia told the friend that smell was garbage. That friend says it was at that point she noticed Tamelia was burning items in the backyard fire pit.
Tamelia Harris sits in the Dubuque County jail on charges of child endangerment. Police have not charged her with the disappearance or death of her daughter. Officers discovered what could possibly be human remains at her house. It was at that time the active search into her whereabouts ended.
