Eunice Alberta Long Goodrich of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Manor Care Health Services, Cedar Rapids. The service in honor of Eunice will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Visiting hours will be 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Mount Vernon Memorial
Cemetery.
Surviving Eunice are her children, Harold and Shirley of Mount Vernon, Candice Goodrich Kling and husband Dr. Timothy G. Kling of Columbia, Mo., and Reid F. Goodrich of Wood Dale, Ill.; three grandchildren, Aaron Goodrich and wife Sandra of Mount Vernon, Brandon Elliott and wife Janie of Cedar Rapids and Andrew Goodrich of Kirksville, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Olivia Goodrich, Emma and Liam Elliott;
sister, Ruby Jean (Mrs. Carl) Long Berridge of Solon; nieces and nephews, Joan Edwards Braatz, Connie Edwards Colony, Richard Edwards, Charles and Eugene Orr, Kim Berridge and Roxanne Berridge; and special friends, Bill and Sam
Elliott.
Eunice was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald and Darrell Long; her parents; and husband, Charles.
Eunice was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Tiffin, the daughter of Eugene Fred Long and Dora Etta Springmire Doane. She graduated from Oxford High School, Oxford, in 1944. Eunice married Charles Henry Goodrich in Manhattan, Kan., on Aug. 20, 1943. A war bride, she held her first job with Northwestern Bell Telephone in Iowa City. Later after World War II, they resided in Norway, Iowa, where she helped Charles' with Goodrich Produce, the family business. In 1958, when Charles made a career change as a securities broker, they moved to Mount Vernon, where they remained.
Eunice was a secretary for 30 years, including 20 years at Cornell College, where she was secretary to the Dean of Student Affairs, Dean of Men and Dean of Women. In 1980, she started her own career change as a travel agent. It became a relished career that took her to the far corners of the world. She retired after four years at the age of 85 from Plaza Motors.
While she was an enthusiast for travel, Eunice also enjoyed music, sewing, gardening, bird watching and horses. At one time she had five horses and won several ribbons in horse competition.
