Meyer, Bonnie Jane
Bonnie Jane Meyer, 78, of Waukon, formerly of Castalia and Postville, died Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Hanson Funeral Home in Waukon with a private service at a later time. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, near Castalia.
Bonnie Jane, daughter of Emmett and Verna (Sieg) Schroeder, was born in Cresco, Iowa, on May 10, 1934. She attended the Frankville School until the eighth grade and then completed high school in Postville. Bonnie worked in her father's country store in Frankville while growing up. She also worked as an office assistant for the Production and Marketing Administration in Winneshiek County and for Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo as a cashier.
Bonnie was united in marriage to Cloy F. Meyer of Castalia, on March 28, 1954, at the Frankville Presbyterian Church. Two daughters were born to this union. Bonnie spent most of her married life on the family dairy farm just west of Castalia She cooked many meals for hired hands and family members who worked with Cloy on the farm. She was a great cook. Pies were her specialty. After the dairy herd was dispersed in 1994, they moved to Postville and began to winter in Arizona. Cloy and Bonnie square danced for several years. They loved to visit and spend time with friends and family and often played cards. She moved to Evergreen Court in Waukon in 2007 and became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon in 2010.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Cloy, who was killed in a tractor accident in 2007; and by a niece, Gerri Lynn Meyer.
Bonnie is survived by her two daughters, Rebecca (Michael) Kramer of Waukon, and Corinne (Gary) Lenth of Monona; and one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Milton (Mick) Meyer of Lansing.
She is also survived by three grandsons, Clay Kramer of Cedar Rapids, Will Kramer of Cedar Falls, and Petty Officer 3rd Class Jared Lenth of the U.S. Navy stationed out of San Diego, Calif.
Casket bearers will be Clay Kramer, Jared Lenth, Will Kramer, Chris Meyer, Tim Meyer, Greg Meyer, Gary Hager, Dan Kuennen and Harvey Zweibohmer.
Honorary casketbearers are Delores Timmerman, Rozella Kramer, Emelyn Lenth, JoAnn Gisleson, Eleanor Drew, Sheryl Martinson, Carol Yohe and Hazel Schlitter.
