Kass, Marie Helen
Marie Helen Kass, 92, of Jesup, died Thursday, March 31, 2011, following a short illness at Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, surrounded by her family. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup. Burial: church cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a Catholic Daughters rosary at 3 p.m. and vigil service at 7 p.m. Monday. Visitation is also an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
She was born April 23, 1918, at home on the family farm, south of Dubuque at Bernard, Iowa. On Oct. 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Alfred A. Kass at Holy Family Monastery, Peosta.
Mrs. Kass is survived by two sons, Carl (Connie) Kass of Independence and Don (Teresa) Kass of Jesup; a daughter, Janice (Brian Burns) Kass of Toddville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert (Vicki) Fischer of Bernard and Earl (Mary) Fischer of Peosta; and two sisters, Dorothy Ruden and Bernadine Kronaizl of Dubuque.
In addition to her husband, Alfred, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald, John, Bill and Paul Fischer; and one sister, Rose Strohmeyer.
Memorials directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church and to Cedar Valley Hospice.
