Delmar Peter Schindler, 95, of Marengo, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at home. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Delmar is survived by his wife, Irene; a sister, Irene; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Calvin and Milver Schindler; and a sister, Shirley Dye.
Delmar Schindler was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Charles and Katie Klotz Schindler. He received his education in the Marengo schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1941 to 1945. Delmar married Irene Snelson on June 11, 1950, at First United Methodist Church in Marengo. He worked at the local Me Too grocery store. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Marengo and also was a member of the Marengo American Legion Post 76. Delmar enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting and fishing, and especially spending time with his family and many friends.
