Minnesota prep QB chooses North Dakota ... or Iowa
Mike Hlas Sep. 26, 2011 11:36 am
Iowa's football program looks at quarterbacks from a lot of places. Ricky Stanzi came from Ohio. John Wienke is from Illinois. Freshman Jake Rudock is from Florida. A.J. Derby is from Iowa City, James Vandenberg from Keokuk.
Among the high school QBs the Hawkeyes are looking at right now is Joe Mollberg of Detroit Lakes, Minn. Mollberg gave a verbal commitment to North Dakota Sunday. But, if Iowa should happen to offer him a scholarship ...
Here is an excerpt from the Grand Forks Herald's story on Mollberg.
“I'm still talking to Iowa,” Mollberg said. “They're calling once a week. They're still there and UND knows that.”
Mollberg said Iowa is showing interest in three quarterbacks. Due to an injury Mollberg suffered in a preseason scrimmage, the Hawkeyes wanted to see game film of Mollberg on a healthier ankle.
“I'll send them game film of the last two weeks, and they'll probably offer a quarterback within a month,” said Mollberg, who pegged his recovering ankle at 80 percent. “You have no idea what they're thinking because they're one of the best teams in the country. They can tell you anything. If (an Iowa offer) doesn't happen, I'm very happy at UND.”
Here is a video of Mollberg in a spring workout, set to the music of Jackson Browne's "Running on Empty." I'm not sure if that's the musical choice to make in such a video, but I'm not a recruiting expert.
