A funeral service for Paul E. Yoder, 91, of Kalona, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 1, at Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona, with Pastor Chad Yoder, Conrad Hertzler and John Hershberger officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 30, from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home, where Paul was residing at the time of his death on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
Paul E. Yoder was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Jonas R. and Magdelena (Miller) Yoder. He graduated from Evergreen Rural School. On Dec. 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to Katie Fern Helmuth. Paul was a farmer and also drove a truck for Mullet Trucking for many years. In his retirement, Paul drove the Kalona By-Ways tour bus and delivered flowers for Of The Earth. Paul enjoyed reading, history, story telling and visiting with people. He was a member of Fairview Mennonite Church.
Survivors include six children, Floyd (Sarah) Yoder of Arthur, Ill., Arlene (Robert) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Gerald Yoder of Louisville, Ky., Loren (Ruth Ann) Yoder of Arthur, Myron Yoder (Catherine) of Kalona and Verlyn (Deb) Yoder of Kalona; nine grandchildren, Yvonne Pattison, Chad and Michael Yoder, Sheryl Gingerich, Brandon and Grant Yoder, Brooke Yoder, Hannah DeJong and Laura Yoder; 14 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ed Yoder and Frank (Ada) Yoder of Kalona.
Preceding Paul in death were his parents; his wife, Katie, in 2000; brother, David L. Yoder, in 2016; half brother, Chris; and two half sisters, Frieda and Mabel.
