DOUGLAS STOWELL
Hiawatha
Douglas Arnold Stowell, 70, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at home with his family near.
Doug was born April 20, 1944, in Richland Center, Wis., the son of Robert and Anna Stowell. He grew up on the family dairy farm in Yuba, Wis. He attended a one room school house for grades 1-8. He always bragged he was third in his class all eight years, failing to mention there were only three in his class. He grad-uated from Richland Center High School.
Doug married Dorothy A. Wagner on Aug. 7, 1965. They made their home in Hiawatha all their married life.
Doug worked part-time as a policeman and as chief of police in Hiawatha for
5 1/2 years while working full time for Rockwell Collins, retiring after 43 1/2 years.
Doug enjoyed being a World War II history buff, building models in his woodworking shop and watching many of his DVDs since his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; sons, Damon (Susan) of Cedar Rapids, Drew of Hiawatha and Dana (Christine) of Blossom, Texas; two grandsons, Timothy and Logan; four granddaughters, Erin, Raven, Elizabeth and Emilee; two stepgrandchildren, Garrett and Max; two great-grandchildren, Willow and Emmett; his sister, Barbara (William) Sanders of North Kansas City, Mo.; and two ex-daughters-in-law, Renee (Andy) Koopman and Sherry (Ryan) Hale, who are still part of our family.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Curtis Stowell
He requested to be cremated and there will be no funeral.
Memorials may be made to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the care given to Doug and the support to his wife during his illness, or to the Cedar Valley Humane Society, because of his love of animals.
He will be greatly missed by his family and his cat, Chopper.
