A 48-year-old Iowa City woman was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, driving while license revoked or denied and assault on a peace officer at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday after authorities say she was uncooperative with officers.
Reports indicate that officers responded to CVS Pharmacy for a report of an alcohol theft. Upon investigation, officers were told that an individual had driven to the store, stolen three bottles of alcohol, then drove away.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle at 1102 Hollywood Blvd. At the location, police said Trishon L. Harvey, a transient, smelled strongly of alcohol and had bloodshot watery eyes, thick-tongued speech and poor balance. She was also exhibiting irrational behavior, police said.
Iowa City police records indicate that a preliminary breath test revealed that Harvey was over the legal limit. Harvey refused chemical testing and allegedly admitted to driving the vehicle after drinking. Harvey's driving privileges had also revoked indefinitely for a drug-related conviction.
Authorities say that while placing Harvey under arrest, Harvey began making sounds as if she was throwing up. Harvey stuck her leg out the squad car door after an officer opened it to check on her, and she would not put her leg back inside when asked. The officer moved her leg into the car, and Harvey spit in the officer's face, Iowa City police said.
Harvey was being held at the Johnson County Jail on Thursday morning.
