Mary Josephine Trachta, 77, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton.
Mary Jo was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Elma, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary Zoback Deterding. On Aug. 17, 1958, Mary Jo was united in marriage with Louis Elwin Trachta Jr. at the Catholic Church in Elma. The couple enjoyed camping. He preceded her in death Feb. 19, 2015. Mary Jo worked as a cook at almost every restaurant in Vinton.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting.
Mary Jo is survived by her son, Don "Bugsy" Trachta of Vinton; her daughter, Debra (Dana) Anderson of Maine; two sisters, Marlene (Jerry Gibney) Schneider and Darlene (Ken) Gibney, both of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Virginia Deterding of Vinton; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gene Deterding.
A memorial fund has been established.
