Scott, Beryl L.
Beryl L. Scott, 87, of Vinton, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Vinton. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, with full military rites conducted by Iowa Military Funeral Honors and Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post No. 57. A memorial fund has been established. Phillips Funeral Home–Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Beryl was born June 23, 1922, to Elmer and Beruth (Booth) Scott at Urbana. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. Beryl earned the rank of sergeant in the Battery “C” 44th Field Artillery Battalion.
On Nov. 8, 1945, Beryl was united in marriage to Dorothy Dulin, Vinton. Dorothy preceded him in death in 1989. Beryl worked for the Green Giant Company in Vinton for 15 years and later was employed by Torney Electric.
Beryl was a member of the Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post No. 57 and the VFW. In his leisure time he loved to play his guitar and banjo. He also enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting.
Beryl is survived by his children, Butch Scott of Independence, David (Elaine) Scott of Cedar Rapids, and Edith Goodell of Vinton.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jessica Demig, Brandy Bell, Lori Wassen, Ryan Neatrour, Renae Goodell, Susan Gay, Heather Hradek and Brett Scott; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wanda Grimm of Iowa Falls.
In addition to his parents and wife, Beryl was preceded in death by one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, two brothers and three sisters.
