Benzer, Dorothy Marie
Dorothy Marie Benzer, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. today at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Joseph; three daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Mau of Ankeny, Susan (Mark) King and Ann (Mark) Robinson, both of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Zach (Jessica) Mau, Cailie Mau, J.P. King, Mitchell King, Jake Robinson and Brody Robinson; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Mau; brother, Robert (Donna) McGuire of Dyersville; brother-in-law, Robert (JoAnn) Benzer of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and nephews, J.P. Benzer and Jimmy McGuire.
Dorothy was born July 16, 1929, in Dubuque, the daughter of Oliver and Letitia (Donavan) McGuire. She married Joseph Benzer on Oct. 4, 1952, at The Cathedral in Dubuque. She worked at AEGON in the Corporate Accounting Department for 15 years. She was a charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Dorothy was very active in Bridge Clubs, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and St. Ann's Circle. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing, playing tennis, running, walking and biking. She loved to travel with her husband and her family, especially their trips to Hawaii. Nothing made her happier than to spend time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or St. Jude Catholic Church.
