Christy, Myron Dale
Myron Dale Christy, 77, of Vinton, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at his residence in Vinton following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at First Baptist Church in Vinton with Pastor Zach Zajicek officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and also one hour before services at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Garrison Cemetery, with military rites conducted by George G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 of Vinton and Iowa Military Funeral Honors of Iowa City.
Myron was born Aug. 15, 1933, in Garrison, Iowa, the son of Harland and Mae (Sturtz) Christy. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1951. Myron served his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. On Dec. 8, 1956, Myron was united in marriage with Bonetta Finley in Marengo, Iowa.
Myron worked at the Me Too Grocery Store in Vinton and also Eagle Foods in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1986, after 27 years of customer service. He also worked as a custodian at Washington High School and G&G Auto Parts in Vinton for many years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Vinton, serving as a custodian and attending the men's breakfasts. He enjoyed tending lawn and gardening.
Myron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bonetta, of Vinton; one son, Darrell Christy of Vinton; two daughters, Charlene (Dan) Ackerman of Joliet, Ill., and Sharon (Kirk) Wright of Vinton; one sister, Ruby Williams of Waterloo; one brother, Robert Christy of Vinton; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
