Popenhagen, Emma Claire
Emma Claire Popenhagen, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Northbrook Manor following a short illness. Services: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Brad Brown. Burial: St. Stephen's Cemetery, Atkins. Friends may visit after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Emma is survived by her sister-in-law, Leone Popenhagen; and nieces and nephews, Margie Burmeister, Jean and Phil McClure, Rhonda and Howard Kluember, Norman and Kay Theiss, Margie Popenhagen, Ken and Carol Popenhagen, Steve and Sherri Thurston, David and Shirley Thurston, Cindy and Karl Hunter, and Marcella and Jerry Emerson.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; two sisters, Verna and Edna; two brothers, Elmer and Melvin; nephew, Norm Popenhagen; and niece, Meredith Theiss.
Emma was born Jan. 31, 1915, in Chatfield, Minn., the daughter of Theodore and Alvina (Kohlmeyer) Meyer. She married Henry Popenhagen on Feb. 15, 1946, in Chatfield. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
Emma enjoyed quilting, sewing and doing crossword puzzles. She also loved to fish with her husband, Henry.
Memorials may be directed to the Concordia Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
