Jerome Francis Wilhelm, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown, with graveside military rites conducted by M.J. Kirby American Legion Post 170 of Blairstown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Jerome was born May 31, 1929, in Petersburg to Benjamin and Marie (Westoff) Wilhelm. He served his nation in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On June 7, 1958, he was united in marriage to Donna Mae Dolge at St. John Catholic Church in Blairstown.
Jerome was a diesel and tractor mechanic for several International dealers, was employed as a mechanic for the City of Cedar Rapids and served as a school bus driver for Benton Community School District.
He was a man of many talents and enjoyed camping.
A wonderful father, his children were always aware of just how much he truly loved them. His entire family will treasure his memory.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Newhall; his children, Debra (Duayne) Herb of Hiawatha, Julia Peacock of Marion, Scott (Christine) Wilhelm of Blairstown and Robert (Tami) Wilhelm of Deep River; 11 grand-children; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Patrick (Charlene) Wilhelm of Blairstown; his sisters, Betty (Bill) Sperry of Marion, Mary Jane Fisher of Blairstown and Bernice Brecht of Norway; and several nieces and nephews.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Dwayne Fisher and Eldon Brecht.
