Merta, Marvin Dale
Marvin Dale Merta, 72, of Lisbon, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, surrounded by his loving family. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Ave. NW, with the Rev. Jan Burback presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Inurnment will be at a later date in Dupont Cemetery, rural Swisher.
Marvin was born April 6, 1937, in rural Swisher, the son of Jerry and Josephine Dostal Merta Sr. Marvin was married to Betty Ann Zach on Sept. 11, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. Marvin worked for over 32 years at Wilson's. He also worked for PMX and RJ Manufacturing in Lisbon. He loved to garden, fish and hunt deer, pheasant, rabbit, mushroom as well as turtles. Marvin was known for his cooking of soups and his special homemade wines.
He will be greatly missed by his friends and family, especially the grandkids who lovingly called him Deda.
Marvin is survived by wife, Betty of Lisbon; his sons, Terry Merta of Cedar Rapids and Darrell (Norma) Merta of Mount Vernon; daughters, Cindy Nost of Martelle and Mary Jo Gross of Martelle; grandchildren, Dori (Richard) Cook, Josh Merta, Travis Merta and Jeremy Nost; three great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Kiily and Tavian; a brother, Jerry (Helen) Merta of Fairfax; and sisters, Darlene Trachta of Cedar Rapids, Dorothy Vavricek of Springville, DeeAnn (George) Sundberg of Bertram and Delores (Larry) Phillippe of Belle Plaine.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Merta, Kenneth Merta, Bobby Merta, Donald Merta and Eldon Merta, a son-in-law, Bob Gross Jr; a special friend, Rick Lineweaver; sisters-in-law, Kate Merta and Maxine Merta; and his brothers-in-law, Ernie Trachta and Lumir Vavricek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family at 315 First Ave., Box 895, Lisbon, IA 52253.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the nursing staff and physicians at the Mercy Intensive Care Unit.
