Goats are tough, resourceful animals

To the editor:
The goat on the loose in Coralville has animal welfare folks concerned. But the species is tougher and more resourceful than commonly thought. A goat will take up with deer - if he's mature, that is, and not just a kid.
Example: In Cedar Rapids back in the ‘90s, a large goat foraged and ran with commendably inclusive deer. I saw the spectacle one afternoon during a run along Otis Road SE near the Cedar River. The goat took off with the herd, not nearly as fast but doing quite well.
Today's Coralville goat could end up in similar company. Meantime, the University of Iowa and PETA may be at odds over the story, but at least no one's making the fugitive the goat.
