Thomas "Tom" Lewis Duggan, 74, of Masonville, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, with a 4:30 p.m. Scripture service. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Masonville, officiated by the Rev. Joseph Schneider with visitation from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Masonville.
Tom was born Dec. 10, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Doris (Doyle) Duggan. He was raised in Masonville and graduated from Manchester High School in 1960. Tom was a member of the Iowa National Guard. Tom was united in marriage to Candyse A. Stimson on Nov. 30, 1963, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester. Three children were born to this union. They later divorced.
Over the years, Tom lived in Reno, Nev., and moved back to Masonville in 1980. He worked for Illinois Central Railroad and later in construction. When he returned to Iowa, he drove trucks for Paris & Sons and later for UAP and CPS. He retired in 2008.
Tom loved his family and friends above all else. He enjoyed NASCAR, the Iowa Hawkeyes and solitaire on his computer.
Tom is survived by three children, Brenda Duggan, Chris Duggan (Barb) and Nick Duggan (Shawn); and a niece who was like a daughter, Brandi Mesch (Dave Gericke); his sisters, Barb Rettinger (Chuck) and LouAnn March (Randy) and Sharon Netcott; five grandchildren, Brody, Cody, Alexandra, Aimslee and Danner Duggan; three granddogs; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Jackie Morehouse and Valda Schaul.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Doris Duggan; his brothers, Bill Duggan and Bob Duggan; his sister, Joan Sellers; brothers-in-law, "Whitey" Sellers and Paul Netcott; and nephew, Nick Mesch.
