Pawlak, Johnny A.
Johnny A. Pawlak, 92, a long-term resident of Cedar Rapids, died in Roanoke, Va., on Jan. 4, 2013.
He is survived by Else, his wife of 67 years; daughters, Sally of Salem, Va., and Sandra of Iowa City; a brother, Henry of Grinnell; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In the Air Force during World War II he was trained as a radio operator, and after the war he worked to bring electricity to Iowa farms during the Rural Electrification Administration project. He was a proud employee of Rockwell-Collins for 22 years, building and testing prototype electronics for projects such as the Mercury space capsule and the B-1 Bomber.
Johnny and Else enjoyed their yard and large gardens. He was skilled with tools and found satisfaction in helping his family and friends with projects. He was known for his sense of humor and was always ready with a quip.
He is beloved in the memory of his family.
