Boyd, Bernice Martha (Ulch)
Bernice Martha (Ulch) Boyd, 90, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Oct. 16, 2009, at home. A memorial gathering and lunch will be held at the Prescott Apartments Club Room, 3150 S. Tamarac St., Denver, CO 80231, on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. Bernice's ashes will be scattered in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her son, Barry L. Boyd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Ulch; five siblings; and her former husband, JW Boyd.
Bernice, a child of Czech immigrants, grew up in southwest Cedar Rapids near Czech Village. She attended Hays and Wilson schools. After her marriage to JW Boyd in 1945, she primarily served as a homemaker but also worked at Square D Co. for 10 years. Her only child, Barry, and his wife, Maxine (Johnson) Boyd, moved her to Omaha, Neb., in 1989 and to Denver in 2002 to keep her near family.
Bernice is also survived by grandchildren, Amy (Boyd) and Trip Conroy, Adam and Jen Boyd and Aaron and Jenny Boyd, and four great-grandchildren, Seth and Trevor Boyd, Chance and Cayden Conroy, all of Denver.
Bernice was a fabulous cook, loved family get-togethers, shared lots of stories and Czech traditions and was known for her sweet tooth and sweet perfume scent.
A special thank you to all her family and friends who have been there for her through the years and her granddaughter, Amy, who has provided extra love and care during her years in Denver.
