Swope Sr., Charles Roy
Charles Roy Swope Sr., 89, died at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, by the Rev. William Harnish. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military services. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a son, Charles (Paula) Swope Jr. of Oakland; daughter, Jane “Kathy” (John) Caes of New Liberty; grandchildren, Jennifer (Shawn) Danker of Guthrie Center, Steven Swope of Urbandale, Robert (McKaylenn Christen) Swope of Pequot Lakes, Minn., Benjamin Caes of Madison, Wis., and Jonathan Caes of New Liberty; and great-grandchildren, Shelby, Sydney, Sophie and Seth Danker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velda; sister, Margaret Hough; and daughter, Joan “Kris” Swope.
Charles was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, to Roy and Margaret Kuhn Swope. He married Velda Nadane May in Ames on March 4, 1944. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Charles worked as an electrician for IBEW No. 405 and served as secretary for many years.
Charles was a great husband and father and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
