Novy, Margaret
Margaret Novy, 88, of Iowa City, died of congestive heart failure on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Margaret Novy Memorial Fund.
Margaret was born June 17, 1924, to Fred and Emma (Koss) Greazel. She graduated from Iowa City High School in 1943 and was united in marriage in 1945 to Donald Novy.
Margaret was employed at Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator for over 34 years, retiring in 1981. After she and her husband moved to Cedar Rapids, Margaret also worked at Mount Mercy College as a switchboard operator. She always enjoyed being around college students and was a great mentor to many.
Known as MeeMee, she loved playing cards, traveling and listening to country music. She was a member of the Pioneer Club, Royal Order of the Moose, Al-Anon, and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Fred Novy of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Lynn (Pete) Weyer of Iowa City; her grandchildren, Joe (Stacey) Purvis of Newton, Casey (Matt) Betourney of Chicago, Matt Weyer of Denver, Colo., Erin Weyer of Minneapolis and Maggie Weyer of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emma (Koss) Greazel; sisters, Evelyn Detweiler and Kathleen Krotz; and her husband, Donald Novy.
