Ruth Marie Irene Gahring passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at age 93.
Ruth was born Oct. 21, 1922, in rural Iowa County, the daughter of Martin and Elisa (Sandersfeld) Kleinmeyer. On Nov. 19, 1922, Ruth was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and was confirmed on April 5, 1936, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Ruth was united in marriage to Dwight Albert Gahring on March 1, 1941, in Birmingham, Iowa.
Ruth worked a short time for Pioneer Hybrid Seed Corn in Marengo before devoting her life to being a homemaker and mother.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies VFW Auxiliary, L.W.L.M. and Women's Guild. Ruth enjoyed golf, bowling, traveling and spending time with family.
Ruth is survived by three children: a daughter, Susan (Stephen) Ahrens of Conroy; and two sons, Bill (Melanie) Gahring of Leesburg, Ga., and Dale (Barb) Gahring of Williamsburg; 14 grandchildren; 29 great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Barb Gahring of Texas and Myra Gahring of Williamsburg; and two sisters-in-law, Marianne Ochltree of Victor and Dorothy Kleinmeyer of Williamsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Linda Faye, in infancy; two sons, Ronald and Donald Gahring; two sisters, Flora Stohlmann and Maxine Wardenburg; and a brother, Charles Kleinmeyer.
Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. There will be a Ladies VFW Auxiliary service at 6 p.m.
Memorials are for St. Paul Lutheran Church or Iowa County Safe Haven.
