Robert Lee Finley, 87, a lifelong resident of Marion, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, in his home surrounded by his family. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by Cedar Memorial Certified Celebrant Jim Parton. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Malinda) Finley of Marion, Kathy (Skip) Thompson of Robins, Cindy (David) Pfiffner of Marion and Lisa Finley of Robins; a stepdaughter, Julie (Jim) Camenisch of Independence; a stepson, Brad (Mitzi) Nielson of Marion; his grandchildren, Chad (Tammy) Finley of San Antonio, Texas, Tia (Donnie Craig) Finley of Marion, Tory (Angie Vogel) Thompson of Marion, Tiffany (Jeff) Pelley of Robins, Tierany (Lee) Virchow of Ankeny, Ryan Pfiffner of Marion, Taylor Pfiffner of Marion, Ashleah (Dan) Synder of Cascade and Adam Rotter of Robins; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Betty Finley and Norma Finley; his son, Gregory Finley; a brother; and two sisters.
Bob was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Merle and Mary (Wilkinson) Finley. He married Betty Herdliska on May 11, 1947. She died in 1975. He then married Norma Nielson on Jan. 29, 1977. She died in 1996. He later married Jane Regan and later divorced. Bob worked for Iowa Manufacturing and then started Finley Excavating and later became Finley & Son Excavating with his son Gregory Finley, until retiring in 2012. Bob enjoyed hard work. His love for gardening was never ending, teaching the skill to all his family. His tomatoes were the best. His love for his family and the time spent with them was priceless. Bob was a veteran serving in the Army during World
War II.
