Jack McLaughlin, 82, of Onslow, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with interment in North Madison Pioneer Cemetery, Center Junction, with military honors. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Surviving are three children, Reva Southard, Tama, Joe McLaughlin, Anamosa, and Kristie (Dean) Johnson, Sabula; seven grandchildren, B.J. Gill, Dave (Trisha) Gill, Debbie (Cody) Rogers, Meghan McLaughlin, Devin, Brooke and Nicholas Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Miller and Hunter and Oliva Rogers; and his sister, Betty Doden, Onlsow.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Shirley, in 2002.
Jack G. McLaughlin was born Oct. 7, 1931, on the family farm near Onslow, the son of Earl and Louise Dietiker McLaughlin. Jack graduated from the Onlsow Community Schools in 1950. He then enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. Jack McLaughlin and Shirley Austin were married June 23, 1959, at Peace United Church of Christ, Monticello.
Jack farmed the family farm near Onslow. He also worked at Clinton Engines before working at the Iowa Men's Reformatory for 23 years.
Jack enjoyed playing cards with his many friends. He also belonged to the Scotch Grove Coon Hunters Club and enjoyed going dancing with his wife, Shirley.
