DONALD "COON" RATH

Donald "Coon" Rath, 94, of Riverside, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree. Graveside services for Donald will be 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Riverside Public Cemetery with military honors provided by Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside. Memorials may be directed to Riverside First Responders or Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414 in memory of Donald. Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Donald Lamont Rath was born on Jan. 14, 1922, in Washington County, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Anna (Dvorak) Rath. He was a graduate of Riverside High School. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. On Nov. 6, 1943, Donald was united in marriage to Nita M. Wingler in Las Vegas. He retired from the VA Hospital in Iowa City. Donald was a member of Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414 and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, coin collecting and spending time with his family.
Donald will be deeply missed by his son, J. Dene Rath, and his wife, Marsha, of Riverside; two grandchildren, Gena Gesing and Aaron Rath; and four great-grandchildren, Aubree and Ainsley Gesing and Andrew and Emily Rath.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nita; one son, Errol Rath; one daughter, Karen Kaye Reilly; three brothers, Leo, Omer and Harold; and one sister, Pearl Rummelhart.
