Thomsen, Julius W.
Julius W. Thomsen, 90, of Center Junction, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center. His family has granted his wishes and he is being cremated, a private family visitation will be held. Burial will be at a later date in North Madison Pioneer Cemetery in Center Junction.
Julius W. Thomsen was born Nov. 16, 1922, in Minnesota, to Mathias and Mathilda (Schlemmer) Thomsen. He married Doris (Ralston) Thomsen on Oct. 10, 1944, in Maquoketa, Iowa. She died on Nov. 14, 2008.
Julius worked as a tenant farmer, for the Center Junction Lumber Yard, Center Junction Coop, at Clinton Engines and retired with Cucklers in Monticello in 1986.
Survivors are five children, Sylvia Wirfs of Lisbon, Bill (Janet) Thomsen of Olin, Dixie (David) Rickels of Anamosa, Carol (Kerby) Barnes of Center Junction and Gusta Lyle Thomsen of Wyoming; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Gage; and a sister-in-law, Buril Thomsen of Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers; four sisters; son-in-law, Ronald Wirfs; and a sister-in-law.
Memorials are preferred.
