Smith, Ramona M.
Ramona M. Smith, 81, formerly of Iowa City, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at Pioneer Village Care Center in Lone Tree.
Ramona Mae Benson was born Feb. 14, 1929, near Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Cora (Werling) Benson. She was united in marriage to Gordon J. Smith on Dec. 16, 1967, in Rock Island, Ill. She had spent most of her lifetime in Iowa. Ramona was one who enjoyed traveling, the outdoors and was especially fond of fishing. She was known by many for her cooking and quilting, but most dear to her heart was spending time with her family.
Her family includes two daughters, Debra Becker of Iowa City, and Sandra Hites of Bunnell, Fla.; three grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; and her brother, John Benson of Brainard, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; daughter, Linda McCord; and her sister, Evelyn Reiland.
Private services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family ask any memorial donations be made in her memory to Iowa Hospice of Muscatine.
