David J. Stavlund, 76, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at Northbrook Manor Care Center. Celebration of Life services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at New Covenant Bible Church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29,
at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ruth, of Marion; three children, Michael (Stacy) Stavlund of Falls Church, Va., Pete (Jen) Stavlund of Chatfield, Minn., and Pamela (Steve) Oliver of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Eleanor, Anna Lucia, Miriam Stavlund, Jacob, Caleb and Ivar Stavlund; a brother, Bruce (Carol) Stavlund of Rockford, Ill.; sister, Sara (Charles) Salberg of Rockford, Ill.; and many loving extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, William Stavlund, in 2006.
David was born Sept. 8, 1940, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Ivar and Doris (Anderson) Stavlund. David graduated from East High School in Rockford. He was united in marriage to Ruth Poast on Aug. 31, 1963, in Rockford. David worked for Mechanical Sales Components as a salesman. David enjoyed fishing and spending time with family on the lake. David loved to grill and was known as the Family Grill Master.
He was a member of New Covenant Bible Church in Cedar Rapids. David taught everyone around him to love others well.
David was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established in David's name.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Northbrook Manor Care Center for the excellent care given to David.
