McCulloh, Cleone Rachel Olson
Cleone Rachel Olson McCulloh, 84, died Sunday March 14, 2010, at Amber Ridge, DeWitt. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Low Moor. Pastor Christine Minor-Heilig and Pastor Chuck Kelsey will officiate. Burial will be in the Prairie Union Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.
Those left to honor her life are her children, 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Jim and Julie McCulloh of Waukee, Reed and Kathleen McCulloh of North Liberty, Nancy and David Schuler of Muscatine, Brian and Lori McCulloh of Viroqua, Wis., Murl and Tracey McCulloh of Camanche, DeAnne and Brent Bloomberg of Orion, Ill.; grandchildren, Abbie (Jim) Pietruszynski of Grayslake, Ill., Katie (Mike) Abbott of Urbandale, Tim (Jess) McCulloh of Waukee, Thomas McCulloh of North Liberty, Joshua Schuler of Auburn, Ala., Jennie Schuler of Muscatine, Ryan (Jenni) McCulloh of Sun Prairie, Wis., Matt McCulloh of Jackson, Ohio. Allison McCulloh of Chicago, Christopher McCulloh of Delmar, Rachel (Matt) Ramaeker of Jefferson, and Hannah, Karin and Stuart McCulloh of Ames; great-grandchildren, Leo and Ava Pietruszynski, Harrison Abbot, and Peyton Luanne McCulloh; a brother, Joel (Kay) Olson of DeWitt; and numerous cousins.
Preceding Cleone in death were her husband, Winton in November 2006; her parents; a sister, Jenora; and brothers, Waltin Jr. and Noel.
Cleone was born August 15, 1925, at rural Calamus, Iowa to Waltin Olson and Jennie Larson Olson. She graduated from Calamus High School in 1943. Cleone received her Bachelor of Science in Institution Management from Iowa State University in 1947. While at Iowa State University she became involved with the Lutheran Student Association where she developed a network of friends she maintained until her death. Following college, Cleone worked for the national Lutheran Student Association and served as a counselor to young college women in Canton, S.D. and the University of Oregon in Eugene. Cleone married Winton McCulloh on June 28, 1950 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in rural Calamus.
She was active in her church, the Clinton County Historical Society and 4-H. Cleone's activities also included supporting Winton on the farm and her family's interests and activities in both school and community.
