Ron Slaughter, 72, of Amana, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery with military honors provided by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Ron. Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Ronald Eugene Slaughter was born Feb. 6, 1946, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Helen (Colbert) Slaughter. Ron was a 1964 graduate of Lone Tree High School and then attended Muscatine Community College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. On Dec. 19, 1969, Ron was united in marriage to Kathleen Dunigan in Iowa City. Ron worked for Contel Telephone Co. for several years, then LeFebure for 11 years and retired from the University of Iowa. During Ron's working years, he also enjoyed farming with friends. In retirement, he worked at Saddleback Golf Course in Solon. Ron was a 50-year member of the Lone Tree American Legion and also belonged to several golf leagues. He enjoyed all sports, attending all his grandchildren's activities, golfing, and also was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Ron will be deeply missed by his wife, Kathy of Amana; his children, Todd (Tracy) Slaughter of Robins and Chad Slaughter of Robins; four grandchildren, Teegan, Tia, Carson and Julia; siblings, Gary Slaughter of Lone Tree, Dave (Jan) Slaughter of Cedar Rapids, Keith (Diane) Slaughter of Iowa City, Rick (Peggy) Slaughter of Iowa City and Brenda (Joe) Ewing of Iowa City; brother-in-law, Danny Curtis of Hills; sister-in-law, Bridget Dunigan; and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Al and Mary Dunigan; one sister, Judy Curtis; sister-in-law, Marla Slaughter; and brother-in-law, Jim Dunigan.
