Meade, Donald James
Donald James Meade, 75, died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Parkview Manor in Wellman.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Holbrook, with Military Rites by the Oxford American Legion. Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. There will be a prayer service today at 4 p.m.
Don was born January 24, 1935 in Holbrook, Iowa, the son of William and Margaret (Ruth) Meade. He graduated from Parnell High School. Don served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1955 in Guam. Don was united in marriage to Shirley “Schropp” Olson on June 27, 1975 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Marengo. He was a lifelong farmer. Don was an avid Hawkeye sports fan and enjoyed reading (especially the newspaper). He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell, Knights of Columbus and the Oxford American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of Parnell; three stepchildren, Barry (Barbara) Olson of Conroy, Brian (Jill) Olson of Vinton, and Sharen Weldon of Parnell; five grandchildren, Heath Olson (Kody Braisted) of Fort Collins, Colo., Cody (Steph) Olson of Cedar Rapids, Jenny Olson of Memphis, Tenn., Jessica Olson of Vinton, and Patrick Weldon of Tiffin; a great-grandson, Brayden Olson; three brothers, Bill (Doloris) Meade of Williamsburg, Vernon (Marlene) Meade of Williamsburg, and Wayne Meade of Parnell; and a sister, Marge Sauter of Williamsburg.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen Meade, Anne Cypra and Geraldine Meade; a brother, John Meade; three nephews, Bob Meade, Terry Meade and Mark Meade; two brothers-in-law, Paul Sauter and Claude Cypra; and a sister-in-law, Ailene Meade.
