Mary Lou Kindler, 80, of Solon, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Iowa City Rehab. A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar St. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Mary Lou was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Cedar County, the Snaggy Ridge area Rochester, south of Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of George and Rosa (Hoy) Benesh. In 1962, she married Oscar Kindler and had two children. The marriage ended in divorce. In 1970, she married Richard M. Kindler and had two children. The marriage ended in divorce. Mary Lou spent her life on the small family farm, gardening, canning and baking breads.
Mary Lou is survived by her son, John Kindler; her daughter, Geraldine (Gerry) Kindler; her son, Richard L. Kindler, all of Solon; and daughter, Brenda Bartling (David Miron) of Michigan; ex-son-in-law, Donald Bartling of Solon; ex-stepgranddaughter, Summer (Brandon) Bartling-Richards of Michigan; grandson, Justin Bartling of Solon; granddaughter, Teah Bartling of North Liberty; her sister, Helen Rupe of Swisher; former sisters-in-law, Margaret Ball and Lillian Luettegens; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepgrandson, Donald Bartling Jr.; her parents, George and Rosa Benesh; her brother, Elme Lee Benesh; former sister-in-law, Dorothy Olsen; as well as her cousins and nephews.
