Sheldon Olson, 80, of Marion, died Monday, July 30, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Linda Livingston.
A visitation will be Sunday evening at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m.
Surviving is his son, Bradley (LeeAnn) Olson of Walford; his granddaughters, Ashley Olson of Cedar Rapids and Tasha (Logan) Schmidt and future great-granddaughter of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Helen Wagner of St. Olaf, Iowa, and Donna (Ron) Foels of Elkader, Iowa; one brother, Paul (Gloria) Olson of Elkader, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty; his parents; four sisters; and one brother.
Sheldon was born Feb. 22, 1938, in Elkader, Iowa, the son of Millard and Ona (Christensen) Olson. Sheldon retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation after 32 years. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church of Marion.
He enjoyed taking his dog, Nemo, for walks and rides in the truck. He also enjoyed socializing within the neighborhood. He especially liked tinkering on projects. During the holidays, Sheldon's favorite tradition was making lefse with his granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous and Linn County Humane Society.
